By founding KVT-Koenig Brazil in the beginning of 2011 the KVT Solutioneering Group is consistently following the implementation of its growth strategy and further enhancing its global presence in attractive markets and regions.

To establish itself in the local market, KVT Brazil is initially focusing on the promotion of the KOENIG expander® product range and the selective introduction of products from the fastening technology portfolio, which includes FILKO® and KD Tech® blind rivet nuts, Tappex® thread inserts, bigHead® bonding fasteners, Precisko® lock nuts and Minibooster® pressure intensifiers:

Koenig-expander®
In the field of sealing technology KVT offers a wide range of push- and pull-type KOENIG-expanders® for quick and reliable sealing of drilled holes up to pressures of 500 bars. The expansion and threaded type KOENIG-restrictors® are highly reliable solutions for precision flow control and regulation.

Blind rivet nuts (FILKO® and KD Tech®)
are efficient solutions to bring resilient threads into thin walled materials or profiles. Access is only required from one side. Blind rivet nuts with a controlled deformation process and specials are possible.

Thread inserts (Tappex®)
For threads in aluminum or other weak materials which are in a heavy duty environment, thread inserts are recommended. KVT’s range completes different styles and materials for all common applications.

Bonding fasteners (bigHead®)
of steel or stainless steel are ideal to imbed, to cast integral, to press in or to bond at a multiplicity of plastics and many more.

Lock nuts (Precisko®)
arrange pretension and guarantee that nuts and their applications are not loosening. Application examples are highly precise spindles, shafts, axles rotate in ball, roller and needle bearings.

Pressure intensifiers (Minibooster®)
supply the initial pressure in multiples of the preselected amplification factor between 1, 2 and 20 without external energy. Pressures up to 500, 800, 2000, 3000 und 5000 bar are possible.

The above selection is of course completed by a wide range of other fastening solutions to meet the needs of the Brazilian market:

Blind rivet technology: is installed from one side, without needing access to the back side of the application.

Self-clinching fasteners: are pressed into sheet metal panels to provide strong, reusable, and permanent threads and mounting points.

Accesssolutions: Compression latches, hinges, handles, push-to-close latches, draw latches, captive fasteners and quarter-turn fasteners offer a good solution with an ample scope for design.

Quick fastening elements and clips: Cage nuts, blind clip-in nuts, closing fasteners with studs for panels, snap-on fasteners share the same features: lightweight, tolerance compensating, flexible handling, materials and finishes - these characteristics convince every designer.

Quick release pins: are used for application with high open and closed cycles which have to be fixed precisely.

Spring Plungers: are for locking, clamping, catching, securing, positioning, fixing, centering of various materials.

Quick connectors: allow joining of any threads, beads, flanges and even smooth pipes directly with the unit without any intermediate adapter.

Close to customers around the world

Proximity to clients is an essential success factor. Because customers all over the world rely on KVT Solutioneering Group, the company has established a global presence with many locations and distribution partners.

Solutioneering also means accompanying customers in the planning, development, and realization of complex, customized solutions. Further regional expansion therefore is a precondition for its implementation everywhere.

As a result, customers are provided with expert application consulting in their native language on demand and local technical support is given to international customers in transfer projects as well as to local customers who develop for both the local and export markets. Support through networked logistics, order processing, and state-of-the-art warehouse systems are also included. In this way, KVT ensures that deliveries are never late, quality is consistently high, and processes are always reliable.

Our objective is to expand globally with current clients, protect business that has been developed in KVT’s core markets, and develop new local customers.

Asia and South America

With its expansion of business into Asia and South America, KVT is actively participating in the growth of these “emerging markets.” The starting point is the promotion of the KOENIG expander® range of products and the selective introduction of products from the fastening technology portfolio, which includes FILKO® and KD Tech® blind rivet nuts, Tappex® threaded inserts, and bigHead® fastening elements for composites. Since the beginning of 2011, KVT has been present in China and Brazil with its own subsidiaries. Both organizations approach customers directly with a dedicated sales engineer team and also are in the process of establishing a local network of distribution partners for indirect sales. Based on these activities, KVT can ensure support by experienced technical staff and partners for large, small, and medium-sized local customers in key industries (mainly automotive/special vehicles, hydraulics, transportation, and machinery).

Growing US presence

In North America, KVT is working consistently and successfully to develop its market presence. In 2007/08, the US companies Sherex Industries and Farmington Engineering were taken over and merged under the roof of KVT Koenig LLC. As part of this expansion, the headquarters and operations of the US company were moved to North Haven, CT, at the end of 2010. The KOENIG expander® and the KOENIG restrictor® are at the center of the business, and they are also manufactured on site. Simultaneously, KVT is establishing the market presence for fastening technology selectively through a range of products comprising rivet technology, threaded inserts, and fasteners for plastics and composites. In North America the fastener business is managed by a dedicated product manager and presented in the market by the entire team of sales engineers. There is particular demand for KVT’s sealing and fastening applications in the automotive industry, but they are also sought after in the marine sector, the transportation industry, and environmental engineering.

The ability to deliver high-grade products with Swiss quality in all NAFTA countries and to customers around the world faster than ever before is now provided by an on-site warehouse, 50 employees involved in manufacturing and back-office operations, as well as by the company’s own market activities through a technically qualified sales force and product management.

Austria and Eastern Europe

Since 1992, KVT Koenig GmbH, with its registered office in Linz, has been a competence center for the Austrian and Eastern European market. In order to provide services to the growing number of Western companies in Eastern Europe as well as to local customers, KVT has greatly expanded its sales network there over the past two years. In addition to already existing subsidiaries in Poland (founded in 2000) and the Czech Republic (founded in 2005), Slovakia joined the organization in 2008, followed by Slovenia, Hungary, and Romania in 2010. Employees with native country language and technical expertise provide direct customer contact on site. Product management, back-office operations and all logistics are managed from the competence center in Austria.

This was the slogan of the 10th Blechexpo show held in Stuttgart, Germany, from June 6 to 10, 2011. The “little sister” of EuroBlech in Hannover – the two fairs are held in alternating years – is now becoming more and more emancipated thanks to an increasing stream of domestic and international industry visitors.

The KVT Solutioneering Group was represented by its German branch at this international industry fair for everything from the world of sheet metal production and processing.

Among the focal points of the show were riveting technologies with the product lines POP® blind rivets, HUCK® heavy-duty rivets and lock bolts, FILKO blind rivet nuts and KD TECH® blind rivet nuts. In the case of the latter, this concerns a relatively new product from the KVT Group. KD stands for “Kontrollierte Deformation” (controlled deformation) and offers users an extensive range of options in construction processes and an enormous expansion in potential fields of application. This segment was rounded out by the presentation of corresponding processing tools.

A prominent role was also played by PEM® press-in fasteners.
We demonstrated the use of these fasteners in practice with the PEMSERTER®3000MB™ automatic inserter and an example of multishell technology. Multishell technology enables users to work with four different press-in components in one single process.

The presentation of Southco latching elements emphasized not only the immense diversity of their latching solutions, but also the extremely attractive design of the product line.

The KVT Solutioneering Group appearance at the show was topped off by a presentation of the entire range of product lines for this segment. Once again, ample proof that whatever the fastening problem, KVT has the ideal solution.

There is a risk with hybrid words that they can be seen simply as smart marketing slogans. For Phil Matten ‘Solutioneering’ did make sense on first reading but a day at the KVT headquarters close to Zurich was an excellent opportunity to test the integrity of the strategy and thinking behind it.

The KVT Solutioneering Group owes its roots to Dr Ing. Max Koenig who, in 1927, began offering customised sheet metal engineering in Zurich. In 1950 the company introduced complementary products including blind rivets and fasteners. It also relocated to Dietikon, around 15 kilometres from the centre of Zurich, which remains its headquarters as well as a manufacturing site.
It is one of KVT’s distinctions that it is both innovative manufacturer and successful fastening technology distributor. The KOENIG-expander®, manufactured now in both Dietikon and North Haven, Connecticut, is a unique sealing system for drilled holes. Innovated in the 1970s primarily for hydraulic applications it today ensures safe and tight closures, even at extreme pressure loading, in a wide range of applications, including engine, power transmission, steering and fuel injection systems for many automotive manufacturers. As well as contributing substantially to the sales and profitability the expander business imparts a series of invaluable advantages to its fastener technology counterpart.

Its innovatory design and engineering integrity ...
